Thanksgiving Surprise

My KC sis, her husband, their older son and family were here for Thanksgiving.  Our Utah daughter and her family drove down and we all gathered, with all the family that lives here in Vegas for Thanksgiving.  Well, unknown to me, they also threw a surprise 50 b-day party for me.  (Yeah, I know … paybacks!)  It was so funny!  They had the kareoke machine hooked up and my four nephews sang “Born to be Wild” my brother in law from KC re-worded a couple of songs for me.  One of them was why he calls me “Brat”  The other is about turning 50.  They were singing to a song with a carribean beat, so, of course, I got up and shook my bootie and then some.  LOL   The last thing they did was made a CD of pics  over the years to one of my favorite songs … yup … hate it when the tears start to flow.  It was a surprise and alot of fun!

Today, we went to one of the nephew’s house and had brunch.  I’ve been jumping on a trampoline with my grandbabies, and the miles are showing.  I’m walking like a granny again … LOL … hopefuly that won’t last too long.

Hope you all have a great Holiday.  We are just about ready to jump in the truck and drive to Vegas.  So no matter what your plans are, be safe and enjoy.

BTW – no, I didn’t make my 50,000 words – but, I’m still working on the story.

Some of the strange things that happened

Since I left Seamonster high and dry yesterday, I had better share a couple of my stories.

When we still lived in Vegas, my 18 yr old nephew from Lincoln, moved in.  One night, hubby and I went out.  When we got home, he was shaken up.  He proceeded to tell us that our house was haunted.  He was watching TV and someone knocked 3 times on the door.  He jumped up to answer and no one was there.  Now mind you it was only about 5 steps from the chair to the door.  He went back, started watching again, and again, 3 knocks.  This time he ran to the door, flung it open and again no one there, he even wandered out to the side walk to see if anyone was walking away.  Shaking his head, he went back in the house.  Third and last time, someone knocked, he opened the door, since he was standing right there, and no one was there.  He slammed the door, went back to his chair cussin’ away, when from the corner, he heard a sigh.  He turned around, no one there.  Needless to say, he jumped up, grabbed his keys and went to his cousins house.

When we got home, we tried to put him at ease and told him it was our friendly ghost that’s been following us around.

Hubby had a family that took him in when his home life sucked.  They had a daughter and when we married she was a teenager.  She and her friend would come over to hang out with my nephew, or watch the kids.  One day, they were all in one of the rooms, hubby was at the doorway to that room.  I walked out of our room and up high on the wall was a shadowed face.  I wandered to where everyone was, looked at my hubby and back at the wall.  By then the face was gone.  So I moved hubby until I saw his shadow as high as the face, he would have had to be across the room by the wall.  I asked if anyone else was in that spot, they all said no, they were sitting on the bed.  Looking at the wall I walked out shaking my head.

Not too long after, I was looking at some pics hubby’s sis sent him.  As I was flipping through them, I froze.  There was a picture of the face.  Hubby looked at the pic and said, that’s my dad.  I looked up and said, that’s the shadowed face on the wall.  *Yikes*

One night I had a dream about his dad.  This was before the face incident.  I dreamt that he died in Vietnam, when in reality he died in a car accident in California.  In my dream I saw where he was buried.  When I woke, I was telling hubby what I saw and that his grave was in the last row by the fence.  His eyes grew wide and said, he is buried in the last row by the fence.  *rut roh*

Hubby’s stepdad was a trucker and away alot.  His mom came to visit one time and she was telling us about this country music video station that the stepdad would always tell her about.  This was when cable first came out and we didn’t have all the channels we have now.  We checked the menu and there was no country music videos.  Later, mom was surfing and she clicked on one of the stations and there it was.  Hubby and I checked the information for the channel she was on and it was supposed to be a movie.  All weekend, when mom was there, she was able to watch this channel.  Within an hour after she left, that same channel went back to what the menu said it was … a movie.

So, that’s why we think our friendly ghost was his dad.  Once mom passed, our ghost left us.  Dad must have been waiting around for mom, even though they were divorced and remarried to other people when dad died.  We’ll have to ask them about this, when we get to the other side.

Strange things

When we lived in Lincoln, NE we used wander through the antique stores in the Haymarket.  They had a couple of large stores … or maybe it was one big one … can’t remember, but we’d wander all the aisles.  I always wanted to buy one of those old pieces, either a table, buffet, chair, couch or whatever.  But I wasn’t sure what I was getting in addition to the furniture.

I guess should explain, you know on the old Bewitch shows?  One of them they brought an antique piece home, it came with it’s dead owner.  That show stuck with me all these years, so I just look and not buy.

What brought this on?  Well, you know me and my brain … it could be one of many things.  But I watched Grey’s Anatomy and Dennie was back.  Granted he was sort of a ghost, but one that was touchable.

I’ve had spooky happen to me.  We’ve had a friendly ghost among us most of hubby’s and my life together.  It’s a friendly one, because, I think it was hubby’s dad.  He stopped following us around when his mom passed although they were not married when his dad died.

I’ll have to write about all the strange things that happened to my family.  That may be my next story, after I finish the nanowrimo one on my sister’s breast cancer.  If anything, I can write it so our children have the stories of our family for future generations.

What day is it?

I’m down to crunch time on writing.  I have many many many words to catch up on if I’m going to make the 50,000.  I didn’t touch the writing yesterday because my muscles were exhausted.  LOL … I received that new workout tape Tuesday night.  So I decided to check it out.  Yeah, kicked my butt and then some!  I was surprised I got up yesterday morning to keep my morning commitment to Richard and the Oldies.

Needless to say, it took all my brain power (and we all know I have so little of that to spare) to keep my body working yesterday.  By the time I got home, I was done!

This morning, Richard kicked my butt, as he does every morning and now I’m about to start a new day.  Muscles feel okay so hopefully the brain will be ready to crank out more words tonight.

Ya’ll have a great day!!

One of many reasons

tahoe-sunset-1This is one of many reasons why I don’t want to move away.

Something I see everyday, this time of year:  Sunset on Lake Tahoe

Doesn’t get much better than that, unless I lived by the ocean.

Prayer Request

I am asking for prayers.   As those who believe in the Lord, know, He is the great healer.  So I am asking that you take my request to the Father.

My office manager’s sister, Angela, has been diagnosed with Invasive Malignant Thymoma, which is a very aggressive cancer.  The tumor is quite large and next to her heart.  Before they could operate, she has to do Chemo, once a week for three weeks and one week off.  However, before they start the Chemo they had to do a dye test to see if it has spread throughout her body.

Unfortunately, the news I received this morning is that the doctor would not give her the full details, but, instead of having Chemo once a week, she has to do chemo for 3 days straight.

The major concern is the dose is going to be so strong there is a possiblity that the chemo itself can kill her.

Angela is only in her 30’s and has 2 small children, one girl is 10 and her son is 7.  Her son has autism and needs quite a bit of attention.

My office manager is going to Sacramento to help her sister and take care of her children.  They all need prayers for God’s healing/comfort/strength/courage.  You name it.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this storm in their lives.

Thanks You.

This isn’t my car?

We drove to Reno yesterday and wandered around.  Our last stops were Whole Foods Market and then to Wendy’s for dinner … LOL … yeah, I know, good food, then we eat fast food.  Well, it’s along the same lines as having  fried chicken and diet coke.  Somewhere in the brain, it offsets the calories/fat/carbs … I know, I’m sick and I need help.  But admit it, some of you do the same dang thing!

Anyway, It was dark walking out of Wendy’s and I walked up to another dark SUV, while hubby was walking further down the lot.  I looked up and started laughing … oops … this isn’t our car.

Hubby shook his head and said, “At least you didn’t get into it!”   A couple of months ago, hubby had, in broad daylight, got into the wrong car.  It was the same color, same everything, parked right next to ours.  He got in and was getting ready to put the key in the ignition when he noticed a Taz keychain hanging on the door.  He said to himself, ”Hmmm, when did she get that?”  Then he made the connection, “Doh, not my car!”  He jumped out, slammed the door, and hoped no one saw him.  He thought for sure someone was going to start running out one of the businesses yelling at him for trying to take their vehicle.

Ah yes, welcome to the world of aging … it truly bites the big one!

The world of me

I make stupid decisions in my life, yesterday was just another one.  I usually where hiking boots to work. You know, I work in a glass shop, for the most part I have to go out back to get customers orders, whether it is a piece of glass, an insulated unit, screens, you name it.  So to have a steady footing, I wear the boots.  They are comfy and when there’s ice on the ground, the tread makes for sure footedness.

Yesterday, I decided to put on my cowgal boots, black leather, silver tipped toes, with the chains around the ankle and heal, kind of like spurrs, without the spurrs.  Needless to say, I didn’t go out back to get anything, except for screens.  I knew I’d break an ankle or something.  So, either the salesman would go get the heavier things or if the glass was big, I’d make the customers drive around back to have the shop guys load it into their truck.  Which is really the more safer thing for them to do, instead of me going and getting the things with or without my kick ass boots.  But there you have it, I said the magic words, my kick ass boots … I was in a kick ass mood.  LOL, I hate when that takes over my wardrobe!

So today, I’m hurting … yup, feet ache … I’m waiting for the balls of my feet to quit hurting and the swelling to go down, before I stuff them in workout shoes and dance with Richard.  Two hours later and alot of bengay, I’m actually able to walk on them without too much of the old lady hunched over ouching.   Hopefully in another couple of hours I can get up and sweat my oldies, but we’ll see.

So … what are ya’ll up to this glorious Saturday?

For me, I have no idea … hubby’s still sleeping, dog is probably asleep on my side of the bed.  The cat was in here yelling at me to feed her and my stomach is busy growling.  I have all our shows recorded ready to be watched, however, I have many hours of writing to do.  Yeah, I know, click out of this site and get to writing your story already!!!   Plus I picked up four books at the library to read.  I’m not a fast reader, unless it is a book that holds my interest from cover to cover.

One of the books I borrowed was a Stephanie Plum adventure book.  Oh wait, that’s why I was in a “kick ass mood” I was reading about Stephanie Plum, the NJ bounty hunter.  duh!  Okay, my world makes sense again … LOL … as if !   I’ve said it before, but I love the characters in Janet Evanovich’s world of bounty hunters.  “Fearless Fourteen” is like meeting up with your friends to see what they’ve been up to since the last time you got together.  It’s a bit comforting to read about someone elses crazy world and realize your own world isn’t so bad.  I guess, I’m saying, I won’t be getting anything done, I have 2 people to help find and figure out who shot the dead guy in Morelli’s basement.

But before that, I have to get my sis on the plane in my story I’m doing for Nanowrimo.   So I had better get to typing.  Ya’ll have a great day and a wonderful weekend.   Later !
