You did what?

I’m not boasting, no really, I’m not!

As I’ve mentioned before, my son is a Graphic Designer in Lincoln.  I am extremely proud of his use of the gift God gave him.  Check out his latest post of Los Logos 4 .

As a parent, it is hard to watch our children go through whatever it is your children have to go through and not be able to help them through their struggles/challenges/hurts/pain, etc.   As for me, I have to fight the urge to go there or move there so I can be there to help, when in reality I wouldn’t be of help, probably more of a hinder.  I have to remember, I cannot fix their problems.   One can only hope that the “free will” we all were given is surrendered to “God’s will.”   Through Him ALL things are possible, if you give up your free will to Him.  Something I struggle with daily as I turn things over to Him and then I take it back, because I worry or fret about this and that.

Another loss in this world

I was saddened to hear Mr. Paul Newman died.  I’ve enjoyed his movies, racing, food, etc.   He was a rare find in the acting world.  My heart and prayers go out to his family.

I wonder if it makes those in Hollywood nervous.  It seems they pass in threes.

Why is that, I wonder?

Say What?!?!?!

I just read this article

PETA proposes that Ben & Jerry’s use breast milk in its ice cream

All I can say is EEEWWW!!!  At least the cows can be constantly tested, however, breast milk from a human?  Who knows what’s in that Earth Suit!!  It’s bad enough we worry about the blood we receive.  That would give us all another thing to worry about, what is in our ice cream made with human breast milk?  Were they sick?  Did they have any diseases?    I mean, think about it, would you want to be donating your breast milk for ice cream?  Oh, here’s an image … many women hooked up to breast pumps for milking.

Amazing!!  If people would care for other people, the way some people care about animals, this would be such a better place to live!

What do you call your body?

Filed under: General, Health, Random Thoughts, Scattered thoughts, Weight Loss — dobegil @ 12:38 am

We had a substitute teacher in a class we are taking at church.  He was talking about our body and how this body is only temporary.  At which time he called our bodies, “Earth Suits” … I chuckled at this, but the more I thought about it, the more he was right.  No matter what you believe, we only have this body while on earth.  So calling it an “Earth Suit” made perfect sense.

There are “Space Suits”, “Flight Suits”, why not ”Earth Suits!”  The Sci-Fi person in me could wrap my head around that.   One day my Earth Suit will be no longer used and the aches and pains of this suit will be shed.   That in itself, is something to look forward to!

It’s either late or I’m really tired, but I just got an image of a pegged wall holding everyone’s earth suit.  LOL, kinda funny in a creepy sort of way.

Today was our monthly date with our doc.  The first thing hubby said to the doc was, “The TV says I should ask you if I’m healthy enough for sex.”   To which the doc said, “Well, are you?”  Then we broke out in a chorus of “Viva Viagra”   I guess I had better clarify, hubby is NOT on viagra … THANK YOU GOD!  It’s probably one of the few drugs he isn’t taking.  However, the doc says, sometimes they prescribe viagra for women.  No, not in that capacity, but to help dialate the vessels in the lungs for a pulmonary thing.  He said when he writes a prescription for a women, they look at him like he’s crazy!

His flu vaccines were in and we received our yearly flu shots.  My diabetes log didn’t make him frown like it usually does.  My numbers are actually lower than they have been in awhile, but still not low enough.  I asked him about another drug (one he and I have been discussing for awhile) that will help my diabetes AND hopefully, as one of it’s side affects, will help me lose more weight.  I’m not thrilled about another pill, however, I am hoping this additional medication will have that dual purpose.  I need all the help I can get.

Hubby’s blood numbers were way better than mine.  However, as the doc puts it, hubby is still in his honeymoon period with this wonderful disease.  Unfortunately, fall has started and we are on our cycle of infections and needing antibiotics again.   We picked up our prescriptions tonight – 9 bottles between the two of us AND these aren’t all.  I have more to pick up on Friday.  OMG, we’ve turned into that old couple with a pill for this and one for that.  My brother-in-law said it best, when he was younger he was on drugs for the thrill/fun.  Now he’s on drugs to live!

Earth Suit – gotta luv it!

Playing hookie

Well, at least it felt like I was playing hookie!  I had to record a document in El Dorado County in CA today, for work.  The county seat is in Placerville, which is about 100 miles away from where I live.  One would think I’d be there in 1 1/2 hours, but … CalTrans had other plans.

Hubby and I set out this morning around 9am.  We drove across the beautiful Sierras on Hwy 50 and I forgot, it’s still road construction season.  So we had delays and slow speed limits and things.  I made it there just before the Recorder’s office closed for lunch.  I was going to search for other documents on a particular property, however, there wasn’t enough time to start the search before the lunch hour.  So hubby and I went to lunch at Buttercup Pantry.  He had the hot turkey sandwich special with mashed potatos and gravy.  I was bad and had the cinnamon frech toast and bacon.  Both our lunches were good, either that or we haven’t eaten out in a while and anything we didn’t cook ourselves taste good.

After pulling several “Tourist Privileges” (yes, I was driving, but hubby was navigating!) we made it to the Apple Hill Farms community.  Wow, what an area.  We were going to go to High Hill Farms, but it look way too big to make a quick stop.  So we went back down the road to Boa Vista Orchards and bought 4 pounds of gala apples and 3 pounds of O’Henry peaches and 2 apple turnovers to go.  Those were the best turnovers I’ve had so far.  The crust was nice and flaky and the center was warm.  Yum, we should have bought more, glad I ran out of money!

After we drove all around the area to check it out.  There was a house and orchards along with a vineyard for sale.  I told hubby we should buy it, so the grandbabies have a place to run and we’d have to get the boys to help us harvest the apples.  LOL, yeah, like that would be happening.  But it’s good to have dreams, even though it won’t be in this lifetime!  I told hubby that we will have to go back, when we have the time to wander – before the snow flies.  A pretty good day trip with great scenery!

So we are home and dang, I have to work tomorrow.  I guess I shouldn’t complain since this work day is way better than the best day in the office!!

Hope you all have a great Friday and YIPPEEE, the weekend is close!!

You don’t have what it takes

How does that statement make you feel?

Does it make you angry?  Do you feel it is exactly what you think of yourself?

Since my post on “Courage” I have had these words go through my mind over and over.  I would feel like I could do anything, then the little voice inside me keeps saying those words.

Through several clicks from different blogs, I found this:  “You don’t have what it takes” .  I listened to the video and I’m not afraid that I don’t have what it takes … AND, neither do you!

Music Within

I finally watched this movie.  I really enjoyed it.  To see someone who comes from a dysfunctional home,  when dysfunctional was considered normal, and hearing the music within to do what was in him and had no idea.

That’s all I’m going to say about the movie, but it is something everyone should watch.    I do have to get the soundtrack!  Loved the music … LOL … don’t know why … maybe because I grew up on it?  Don’t know just a thought!

So …

Do you hear the music within?

OR

Will you go to your grave an unplayed symphony?

Courage

Have you ever watched a movie and absolutely loved the first part, then the rest is not so great?  That’s how I feel about “Hudson Hawk”   But here I am, still tuned in to the Sleuth channel with this movie playing.

I’m facing a couple of things in the near future that I’m not sure I have the courage to do.  I know I have no choice in the matter, but it still is pretty scary.  One is re-starting my home business.  The other, getting agressive to work the business for success.  When I get fired up, I can do it.  I just have to remember it isn’t my glory that I do it for.  I guess we will see in the next month how quickly I can advance.

How well do you listen?

I have been listening to “Lifesong” by Casting Crowns all week.  Today was the first time I really heard the words in “While you were sleeping”.  The part ”For the King has left His throne and is sleeping in a manger tonight” was one of those V8 slap moments.  I saw the words as pictures in my mind and it was an eye opener.  It must have been something I was meant to hear today.  Makes one realize what we miss when taking things for granted.

While you were sleeping – by Casting Crowns

This is another song on the CD – Who hasn’t felt like this?

Prodigal – Casting Crowns

These two songs have been on my mind as we have earthquakes in the west, floods in the midwest and hurricanes in the east.  Jesus said just as we can  tell the weather by the skies, there will be signs to know when he’ll return.  What if … the signs are there and we are sleeping and not prepared?
