Busy Week

Filed under: Family, General, Music, Random Thoughts, Scattered thoughts, Uncategorized — dobegil @ 9:17 pm

Wow, it is already Thursday.  Monday and Tuesday I pretty much crashed, then Wednesday I had a meeting at church.  Tonight was the first rehearsal for choir.  Tomorrow, after work, I drive to Reno to pick up my nephew.  Saturday, I take him back to Reno, since he is here for the UNR/UNLV football game.  He works for UNLV and has to do that work thing … LOL … Then Sunday, my week starts all over again!

I’m excited about flying to Vegas a week from tomorrow.  It will be nice to see my children and grandchildren.  (By children, I also include their spouses in that)

Yesterday morning, our inside salesman was in a car accident.  He was pretty banged up yesterday, with a dislocated toe and sore neck and shoulders.  He had an MRI yesterday afternoon and was supposed to receive the results today.  We haven’t heard from him before the day was out.  He was either at the doctors or still asleep with the assistance of the pain meds.

Apparently, someone ran the red light and they pretty much had a head-on collission.   Luckily it was more to the passenger’s side.  Strange thing, about a month ago, his girlfriend was in a very similiar accident.   She was pretty banged up, but again, not as serious as it could have been.  Sounds like a major wake up call.  Hopefully they will heed whatever warning is being sent their way!

Work has slowed down quite a bit.  The mornings are busy, however, the afternoons die.  It’s a good thing Magic is there.  She and I played for a good 30 minutes, killing time this afternoon.

Hey, It’s Thursday … woohoo … guess what’s on???!!!??

Dancing with the Stars

Yesterday I watched Monday night’s Dancing with the Stars.  This is the first time I really watched this show.  And of course, you all know I love to ballroom dance.   So, since it was Monday night’s show, only the ladies danced either the cha cha or the fox trot.  Even though they are all professionals in their own right, it still was alot of work and reprograming for some.  However, they did prove to be professionals and looked the part.  Of all, I think Jane Seymour was the most elegant in her fox trot.

I still have Tuesday and Wednesday nights to watch, thank goodness for DVR.  I probably won’t be able to watch it until this weekend.

Did anyone watch Private Practice?  It will be interesting to see.  Also I recorded Back to You.  For those of you that liked Frasier, you’ll like this.  He’s the same type of character as a news anchor.

Abdomen ultrasound

Filed under: Family, General, Health, Random Thoughts, Scattered thoughts, Uncategorized — dobegil @ 6:44 pm

I had my ultrasound this morning.  Last time I had an ultrasound was when I was pregnant with my son 26 years ago.  Geesh how time flies.    Of course, this was a different area of the abdomen.  The technician took interesting pics of my insides … LOL … all looked like blurry blobs to me.   The newest thing is the gel warmer.  The gel wasn’t ice cold.  That was pretty cool.

My doc should have the results in 3 working days, so next week, before I leave for Vegas on Friday, I should know what’s up … LOL, well, maybe.

I’m flying to Vegas Friday night to walk with my daughter and son in the Breast Cancer walk.  My son and his family will be visiting for a few days, so we are going to spend a couple of days with them before they head back to the flatlands.  Unfortunately, my husband can’t drive down until Saturday night after he gets off work.

Hey, it’s Tuesday, guess what’s on tonight???

Presentation

Filed under: General, Ministry, Random Thoughts, Scattered thoughts, Uncategorized — dobegil @ 9:40 pm

I was asked to talk about the ministry I’m involved with at the women’s bible study tonight.  I had put off preparing for it, using my usual excuse that I would do it tomorrow.  Well, tomorrow never came, that is, until today, the day of the presentation.  Why do I procrastinate?  I was actually going to work on it this weekend, totally forgetting this past weekend was so busy with my ministry that I didn’t have the time to prepare.

So, tonight was scattered and I had to jump in and talk about what my ministry is.  So what is it that I do?  HAH, glad you asked … LOL … I have the privilige of working in the feeding ministry at our church, basically the food pantry.  We provide canned and non-perishable food to those who need it.

My ministry is the Share ministry.  It is separate from the food pantry, however a part of food pantry.   This is a once a month program that brings in fresh fruit, fresh veggies, frozen meats and on occassion eggs & cheese into the pantry for giving.  These food packages are donated by our church family and we are able to give these out to the ones who visit our pantry in need of food.

It is such a blessing to see the people’s faces when we hand them a bag of fruit/veggies & frozen meat in addition to the canned goods.  Let’s face it, how many of us have been or are now, in a position where you don’t know how you are going to feed your family.  Especially after rent, payments, utilities, etc need to be paid.  What is left?  I think I wrote in a previous post that it could happen to any one of us.  In a blink, we could be homeless, foodless, jobless, or feeling hopeless.   People are so greatful for whatever we can provide for them to get by.

This is one of the outreach ministries at my church.  I’m thankful we have such a reaching leadership.   Our senior pastor has a favorite saying.  It’s to be “Jesus with skin on”  It’s not always easy, however, when you do, it is so fulfilling.

What a drive

Filed under: Family, General, Random Thoughts, Scattered thoughts, Wanderings — dobegil @ 7:13 pm

Yesterday when I got off work, I drove to Reno to pick up the Save the Tatas shirts.  Since the store is in NW Reno and I work at the lake, I decided to drive the back way through Kings Beach and up to Truckee to I-80.  Then East on I-80 and oh what a view!  I forgot how beautiful the surroundings were and the Truckee River running through it all.   There are so many places to stop and wander.  I will have to check it out before the snow starts really flying.

It was a long drive back and I was pretty much wiped out when I got home.  There is so much beauty around this area and I need to appreciate it more.

So what beauty is around your area that you need to take the time and smell the roses, so to speak?

East to West

I always hear this song on the station I listen to driving to and from my destinations.  I hadn’t really listened to the words until today.  It’s on my vodpod to the right.  This video shows the words and photos that go with the words perfectly.

How many of us who are in Christ, feel this way.  We know we are forgiven and are washed clean, however, the worldly ways drag us back.  It is a constant battle every day.  I know these past 2 weeks I have been battling my old self and actually feeling like the words to this song.  I don’t like my old self.  That person was ugly!  It feels like this huge dark monster takes over and I’m somewhere in the middle fighting my way back.

So when I heard and read these words to this song, it was such a relief to know I am not alone in my fight.   That someone actually wrote the words to what goes on in me.  I’m so thankful that He always finds a way to reach me when I’m lost in the storm.

Why marriages do not last

Filed under: Family, General, Random Thoughts, Scattered thoughts, Uncategorized — dobegil @ 8:56 pm

This was a news story on CBS The Early Show this morning.  They were talking about how many marriages in the 70’s didn’t last.  I guess you can say, that I am a statistic of a  ‘70 marriage that didn’t last.  My first husband and I were married in 1978 and were divorced in 1982.   My current husband and I were married in 1983 (Dec) and are still together.

Now mind you, the end of this year will be our 24th year of wedded bliss, however, it was not always bliss.  The news story talked about how couples don’t hang in there anymore, like the older generation.  They mentioned something about maybe the vows should be changed to “I do, for now.”  Wow, talk about setting the marriage up to fail.

Granted there is NO Cinderella & Prince Charming marriages.  That also sets couples up to fail.    All marriages have their problems.   It’s knowing how to deal with the problems that gets you through the days of married life.

I don’t have any answers as to how to have a successful and long marriage.  And, there sure as heck isn’t any secrets to a successful long marriage.  Like my husband said this morning, “You sure as heck aren’t going to find the secret in the morning news show!”

Our life together has many road bumps … well, you might say craters!  We’ve been on the brink of splitting up more times than I can count.  However, we are still together … and only God knows why, since He’s the one that matched us up.

A good, successful and long marriage has nothing to do with knowing the secret.  I think it has more to do with the commitment to each other.  God knows, in a marriage, there are many times you either need to give or receive forgiveness.  Many times you need to actually verbalize that you are sorry for whatever you did.  Many times you have to tell your spouse that you love them.  Many times you have to show physical affection and no, I am not talking about sex.  I’m talking about holding hands, running your hand along your spouses back, touching their arm, etc.  Showing your spouse that you still care.  Do we do this?  We try, not always are we successful, but we do try.

We’ve been together so long, that we are familiar with each other.  I cannot see myself with anyone else.  Although, in our last almost break up, we both were seeing other people and about to move to the opposite sides of the country.  I have no idea how and why we stayed together.  It had to be Divine Intervention.  He was showing us that we really would miss each other.   And you know what, He’s right.

Marriage is alot of work, alot of sweat and alot of tears.  Mixed with that is alot of laughter and alot of fun.  Even with our faults, hang-ups, habits and all, our life together is still a great ride through life.  One I would not have missed for the world!

How You Live (Turn up the Music)

I heard this song as I was driving to work this morning.  I had to share, it is a really good song.  Enjoy!

He Reigns

Such a good video, I had to share.  The weather here has been rainy and cold, so the clouds are low and a bit foggy.  If I could have grabbed my camera and not crashed the car, I would have taken pictures of the mountains with the low clouds.  It was so awesome!

I watched a couple of minutes of survivor.  The part I caught was the part about the girl leaving the buddhist temple because she felt she was worshipping a false god.  She’s not a religious person, however, she is a follower of Jesus Christ and has a personal relationship with Him.  She didn’t care what anyone else on her team thought and the looks they gave didn’t bother her.  She said she has her beliefs and she was going to be her.  All I can say is, “You go girl!!  Don’t let anyone or anything get in the way of you and our Lord.”  Here’s the clip.

Well, that went well

Filed under: Family, General, Random Thoughts, Scattered thoughts, Uncategorized — dobegil @ 8:04 pm

Today was our doc visit.  I got there early, so they set me up in my own room.  From this visit, I am now getting an ultrasound on my gallbladder, more medicine for my diabetes, another inhaler and creme for my skin … LOL … I’m not even 49 yet … what is up with that?!?!?!?  Oh yeah, did I mention he gave me a shot also??  Yup, lucky for me he just received the flu vaccines, so now my left arm is aching.   Does it get any better when you turn 50???  The only thing I have to look forward to, is being a member of the AARP to get those senior discounts!  *SIGH*

The doc also wants my husband to change jobs and get rid of our animals … HAH … that is easier said than done!  His lung function is getting worst and the weather is cooling off, soon to be winter.  *Big sigh*  I’m not sure either of us are ready for this.    Great, so, what to be when you grow up??  I still vote for nomad!  Odd jobs here and there and travel!
